Horse Genome Assembled: Thoroughbred Mare's DNA Code Now Freely Available

Science Daily The first draft of the horse genome sequence has been deposited in public databases and is freely available for use by biomedical and veterinary researchers around the globe, leaders of the international Horse Genome Sequencing Project announced today.

Yes, I thought that was great (I am weird enough to have Thoroughbred set as one of my Google alerts).

Since one equine disease is quite similar to AIDS (but does not jump species), maybe access to this knowledge will also help stop one of our worst human tragedies.
