And it's kinda long so I'll just tuck this away behind a cut.
--Hardback or paperback?
These days ebook because I can stick it in my PDA and carry it in my pocket. Which is how I'm currently reading _War and Peace_. :-> Paperback next because it takes up less room. Hardback if I'm checking it out of the library because I'm less likely to mislay it. Also hardback if it's by Terry Pratchett because I'll probably read it many times.
--Highlight or underline?
Who, me, mark a book? Heck no - I use bookdarts on the side of the page next to the cite.
--Lewis or Tolkien?
Both. Definitely both.
--E.B. White or A.A. Milne?
E.B. White
--T.S. Eliot or e.e. cummings?
Both.
--Stephen King or Dean Koontz?
Neither.
--Barnes & Noble or Borders?
Either.
--Waldenbooks or B. Dalton?
Either.
--Fantasy or science fiction?
Yes.
--Horror or suspense?
Maybe.
--Bookmark or dogear?
Bookmark. Most likely another bookdart. They're small, fit flush at the top of the book and don't fall out and don't have to be put down somewhere where they will promptly dive into the nearest wormhole and escape to Parts Unknown before I pick them up again.
--Hemingway or Faulkner?
Hemingway.
--Fitzgerald or Steinbeck?
Steinbeck.
--Homer or Plato?
Both.
--Geoffrey Chaucer or Edmund Spenser?
Both.
--Pen or pencil?
Both. (In fact I've got a writing implement that has both a pen and a pencil. May get one of those things that also has a stylus in it someday. Then get 'em all mixed up, no doubt.)
--Looseleaf or notepad?
Notepad. Stays put better.
--Alphabetize:
Hardcopy, no. ebooks yes (well, the computer does that anyway...)
--Dustjacket: on or off?
On and Brodarted. I've got a whole ROLL of the stuff.
--Novella or epic?
How much time do I have?
--John Grisham or Scott Turow?
Neither.
--J.K. Rowling or Lemony Snicket?
I've only read the first - I suspect I'd like both.
--John Irving or John Updike?
No thanks.
--Fiction or non-fiction?
Yes.
--Historical biography or historical romance?
Biography. (Or romance in the case of Georgette Heyer's Regency stuff.)
--A few pages per sitting or finish at least a chapter?
At least a chapter. Unless I get interrupted.
--Short story or creative non-fiction essay?
Both.
--"It was a dark and stormy night" or "Once upon a time"?
Both. Also "It was a stark and dormy night." (John DeChancie actually *used* that one.) And then there's my favorite first line of all time, used by John Varley for "Steel Beach". Go look it up.
--Buy or borrow?
Both.
--Book reviews or word of mouth?
Both.
