Came across this photo in a blog and considering the appearance of the white knight in Through the Looking Glass I can't help wonder if Lewis Carroll ever saw it.

You're probably thinking of Carroll's contemporary illustrator, Sir John Tenniel, although Carroll did illustrate the original ms. which has been published as Alice's Adventures Under Ground.

Which reminds me of a bad joke I made many years ago. I wondered what illustrations Tenniel had done for the poem about the aged, aged man. There's a line in it about a buffalo. The year I wondered this was 1976. I was thinking if such an illustration were unearthed, that would have been a good year for it. A Tenniel bison, found in the Bicentennial.

That may be the single worst pun that has ever occurred to me. Except for the poem I wrote about Ambrose Bierce being eaten by a lion. Fierce beast having a Bierce feast.

Someone's been reading Piers Anthony again, methinks.

More likely a first-draft for L. Frank Baum's Tin Woodman.

Mildly creepy...
