Further Fred Report
Mar. 17th, 2005 02:03 pmGot this from Lee Gold who did it up as a handout for me to give concerned fen at the LASFS tonight.
INFORMATION ON FRED PATTEN
Fred Patten had a stroke late last Friday night. He noticed what was happening and called 911, and the paramedics came and took him to the hospital.
Fred's right hand and leg are paralyzed. At first his vision was blurred, but now it's back to normal and he can read (including being able to read last week's APA-L and dictate comments on it for Lee Gold to type up). His speech is a bit blurred, but it's getting better. He can't swallow, and so is being fed by IV.
He's in Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital: 4650 Lincoln Blvd., Marina del Rey. His phone number there is currently 823-8911 ext. 5321. Sometimes he's busy with doctors doing tests or his physical therapist, but most of the time he welcomes visitors and phone calls.
As soon as Fred's condition is stable, the hospital will probably transfer him to a county hospital. From there he might go on to a MediCal nursing home or he might be allowed to leave to stay in someone else's home or to go back to his own two bedroom apartment if there's someone else temporarily living there who can help him. Volunteers should phone Fred or Lee Gold (310) 306-7456 or email Lee Gold at lee.gold@comcast.net.
end quote
If you haven't already mailed it, a card sent to Daniel Freeman may well bounce given that he'll be moving when stable and we've no idea where to. For the moment, just send it to me and I'll forward it. Email me at kayshapero@earthlink.net for my address if you don't already have it.
