Why it's considered "attractive" and why it occurs in so many places. It is a ratio that scales very well in self-similar structures, and a lot of biological (and physical) processes tend to build self-similar (fractal) structures.

Someone asked about BJDs and that was the cleanest shot I had currently resident on the laptop without digging out storage discs or the external HD. And, having made the icon I figured I might as well use it. Sure - send me a better one and I'll use it to replace the icon.
