"Furry fandom" is a rather amorphous relative of science fiction fandom involving people with an interest in non human lifeforms. In origin it's related to sf fandom in general and to anime fandom in particular; many early members of C/FO were furry fans, as was probably obvious from the mascot Mark Merlino drew for the club. You find fans of animation, of fictional animals, of real animals the Reptile and Amphibian Rescue Network has done presentations at the ConFurence and CaliFur conventions, and I know several wild-life rehabilitators who are involved. It's a fairly artist-heavy fandom, with a strong anthropomorphic content. But all that's really required is an interest in and liking for animals.
