Now that was interesting...

Interesting LASFS meeting tonight. Someone, I didn't catch the name, decided it would be fun to add an international flavor to the meeting, by providing the President and Scribe with Mexican Wrestling Masks. Which they wore for the first part of the meeting. President Ed Green wound up with the red one with the bull horns, and was suitably dubbed El Toro Rojo. I must admit that of all the things I ever expected to see in my life, El Toro Rojo auctioning off a Darth Vader pez dispenser was not one of them. Leaves me to wonder what other sights the future has in store... then again maybe I shouldn't think too hard about it. :)

Mind you, for all around memorableness, it does not compare with what happened years ago when a member moved into an apartment and found that the former inhabitant left behind a case of sex-related toys, still in their original packaging, which he was apparently in the business of selling. There being no way to return them, the member donated the box to the LASFS. After checking that all present were of age, Bruce Pelz proceeded to auction them off. "A thing's a phallic symbol if it's longer than it's wide.." Well, quite a lot of the stuff in the case was in the same shape, from out and out dildos to soap-on-a-rope. And, of course, my favorite, the weiner whistle. Bruce hammed it up good and proper and it was one of the most hilarious evenings I can recall spending. Long Live the LASFS!

Nobody proposed turning the donations into Hugo Awards? Could come in useful this year...

I haven't read them.

It's a comment on the shape of the traditional awards.

How delightful!

As for the Hugo Award bit, I believe a traditional Hugo Award is one of the items portrayed in the sex-toy-shop cover of one issue of Phil Foglio's Xxxenophile. along with a lava lamp, a Winslow, a pickle...

Oh, that brings back memories. It's been a long time since I've been at a LASFS meeting. I rather miss them.
