Oh dear...

Checked Weatherunderground - There appears to be a rather large cyclone headed for the middle of Australia. (this may take a while to download if you've not got a high speed connection.)

It is a NASTY one. That map shows cat 4, but I've heard cat 5, which is as bad as they come.

The cyclone was upgrated to cat5 this morning. It's a bad one.

The middle of Australia will probably be OK - the cyclone will have wound down a fair bit by then. But Cairns and Townsville - which are still recovering from the floods - are going to be hit hard.

The reports we got on the news here in the UK were really quite scary; up to twenty hours of extremely high winds, a huge storm surge...

Yeah, it sounds pretty terrifying, and I'm very glad I live in Victoria. I'm certainly not saying that it will be *fun* in central Australia, but it does look like the coast will be hit worse - and of course, that's where most of the population tends to be.
